bought three gauges of the 7 colour variety and installed without any problems. turned engine over and oil pressure gauge read from left to right and then back to the left once cranking stopped... now when i turn the key to energize the gauges the oil gauge moves to the right at warp speed and hits the stop. this occurs when the sender wire is on or off i have taken readings from all terminals.. (+) 12.57v, (sender) 9.15v... this is the second gauge as the first gauge was doing this too has anybody any similar agro with these clocks

Don't worry, Alex was talking to us. Only mods can move threads.

How exactly have you fitted it? Other than 'Auto Gauge' do they have a makers name on them anywhere? What terminals are on the back of it and on the sender?

thanks. got the whole thing changed now and although the gauge works as it should it is reading very high, I am inclined to believe it correct as this is an on going problem. when i first cranked it over after the re,rebuild i was showing over 100psi on the starter which i dismissed as a tight engine and thought it would loosen up. I have had it running in the garage and even warm it still shows over 100psi. moreover, the needle swings so far over that it gets wedged in the maximum position.I then have to tap the screen to encourage it back the left. This is in stark contrast to the first initial turnover when i had zero pressure. all i did was strip the engine from the gearbox to see if i could find any thing i may have missed, but nothing. I simply rebuilt it back up and slid it back in the car.
At present i have the ball bearing relief device with spring and was wondering if anybody has tried the adjustable set up with any degree of success?
apart from that i fail to see what else could cause excessive oil pressure in a mini.

You made the ball bearing conversion for the relief valve? Did you remember to cut about 3 turns off the spring? You don't use the standard or Cooper-S relief spring "full length" with the ball bearing, you have to shorten it.

I have an adjustable valve. They do work. However, a number of people think they will help correct a low idle oil pressure. This is not correct. The adjustable valve only lets you fine tune the relief pressure and cannot correct low oil pressure caused by worn components.

I don't have a lot of experience with electronic gauges. Your AutoGage will have been made by AutoMeter. Gauges whose needles go all the way around and then back to zero when power is applied are stepper motor instruments. They can be very precise. However, when it comes to pressure gauges I still like a nice mechanical gauge.
