hey ive got a stage 1 and when i first insured my car i didnt say that it was a stage 1, they wack on another £50 for it, i now have 1 years no claims and i still havent put it down as a stage 1, its just down as a 998!
In the event of a claim you're insurance is pretty much void if they inspect the car then...

I've also found that quotes can vary from day to day! When we switched Holly's Mini to her name (that's the car that's wearing your old wheels by the way Mike!) we were given a very good quote by Admiral and nobody else could get close. Two weeks later we phoned to take up the quote and they quoted us another £50 less!
For what it's worth Holly's 18 and is in her first year after taking her test - be warned that it usually goes up after passing your test!
oooh cool - Got any pics of how they look?

yeah but it hasnt changed the performance of the car really, its just a slightly bigger exhaust so i dont see why i should pay more if the car isnt any more faster or better with it! i bought th car with it already on!
when i first tried to insure my car they asked if my car was modified in any way, i told them yes its been resprayed pink and for some reason becuase it is pink they wanted me to pay another £40 for it so i dont declare it as modified anymore either. its on my V5 as pink and that all they need to know!
By not declaring the Stage 1 kit you have voided your insurance policy. You are telling lies and will very probably land yourself in some legal trouble. And shouting about it on a public forum too.......not the most clever thing to do. How do you know it hasn't changed the performance of your car? It makes no difference if it's gained or lost power, you are lying to your insurance company who will, I imagine, gladly void your policy when you try to claim on it!!
I hope you don't have an accident as it will end up costing you a fortune if you have no cover at all. Not to mention the charges for fraud. I really hope you never crash into me and I have to try to claim from your insurance!!!
It is a ridiculous thing to do to lie to your insurance company, whether you agree with what they do or not. And to chat about it so casually on a forum is just silly.

Modifications such as a bigger exhaust can make the car more appealing to thieves which is another reason why insurance premiums go up with things like alloys and cosmetic things like that.
And like I said in the event of a claim they'll take one look at it and argue the toss with you so it's really not worth it

Just be breif when explaining the mods you've done. When explaining my stage 1 i just said - A sporty exhaust and an air filter which i wasn't sure if it gave anymore power or not. Theres no need to make it sound like you've turned your mini into some firebreathing, rubber burning road warrier! Just don't make it sound too racey and expencive

Insurance is an individual thing hence there will be differing prices, I can insure my 1275GT for under £100 fully comp etc etc depending on the company.
I pay a little bit more than that for the actual cover due to the small print, check your policies very carefully and anything like a big exhaust WILL invalidate your insurance if not declared.
I have seen people with £20k cars left without cover and a car following a bump due to the small print.
