Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):

Any non-standard parts that might be involved with the problem?
hello all, i recently purchased a 1994 mayfair 1275, the carb needs new jets and needles, thats whats recommended on the last service. my question to you all is what type of a carb will mine be, also its currrently running with a lcb, so what would be my best carb to suit this? could i get one from the local breakers of another rover or something, strip it and service it myself before fitting it.
cheers rach

I think it'll be a Hif44. SU's are very simple and can go on for ever.

There's a Haynes Manual just for SU Carb's, wouldn't be surprised if your local library has a copy if you ask also masses of info online.

http://www.youtube.c...feature=related check out his other SU vids too

According to Haynes they actually changed from a HIF44 to a HIF38 from 1992 on ??..Actually rereading that it seems to read like the Cooper 1275's had the 44, and the other 1275 variants the 38 !!

I've no real experience with the HIF's so not sure what identification marks they have, I do know the throttle aperture is 44mm on the HIF44, and 38mm on the HIF38.

Yes the early Rover Mini Coopers were the only models to get the HIF44 carburettor before going fuel injection in October 1991.

The post 1992 non-Cooper models (Sprite, Mayfair and a host of LE's) got the HIF38, before switching to fuel injection some time in 1995 (I believe?)
