Well im planning to go for the super smooth look and wanted to smooth over where the rear lights are on the standard mini, now i was trying to think of a stealthy place to put them and the best place i can think of is on the parcel shelf so they are visible through the rear window.

If this is legal i wouldnt be using some lights that can sit flush (well near enough) to the rear window and making a custom parcel shelf to hold them...

So basictally does anyone know if its legal to have the rear lights of a car in the rear window?

Only i remember an old thread about saying you couldnt mount them on the rear vallance as it is to low, so i just wanted to see if there was any problems about the rear window?

Any help would be great.

The TVR is a Tuscan, the N/S unit is shown just above the N/S Headrest.

Construction and use regs, I'd think they'll be online somewhere. Most would be ok but I'm not sure about the reverse and I'd think fogs would defo be out.

As for reverse, well you dont even need to have a reverse lights for an MOT, but what i think ill do is mount them either side of the number plate....

There is no restriction on having lamps inside a window, the problem is in the mounting dimensions and viewing angles. We have actually discussed this on the forum before (there are no new ideas!). The bottom edge of the window is a good height for the lamps I seem to remember but if they are inside on the parcel shelf the C pillars will restrict a lot of the required angle of view.

Check the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations for details. They are available online if you search, I've linked to them many times.

Cheers dan, well i would be making a custom parcel shelf to hold them, so ill have a search for the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations so i can work out how the lights would have to sit. Thanks for the help everyone :turtle:

Well i gave the local MOT place a call and they said its ok to have them in the rear window, the guy said the only things that i must make sur ei do is make sure they are about the same height an about the same distance in from the side of the car.

So they dont even have to be exact, just about lol.

Ill be picking the project up tonight, so hopefully ill have it finished in a few months. Ill try and re-member to get some pics up.

cheers for that, i'll be keeping my eye on you finishing it.

another quicky, slightly off topic. the rear fog and reverse light u have. are they the defender WIPAC lights?
am i right in thinking that for the rear fog i'd just need to use a 21w bulb and that would pass as a rear fog?
