What cylinder head will give my 998 the best performance, I understand the 12g195 will give good performance but which is better the one off the 998 or 1098? Also would adding a 12g940 give better performance again. Im now on a mission for better performance today after being out dragged by a 50cc scooter. Oh and none of the just put a 1275 in because im getting a 1380 next year once I have got 2 years no claims,

12G295 head is the best standard small bore head. Samwell has a souped up one for sale at the moment

I wouldn't bother with a 1098 head as they are pretty much the same heads as the 997 cooper.

As miniboo suggests the 12g295 head is the best to go for if you got vizard's book it will go into more depth than I can but if you ever compared a 1098 head to a 12g295 head you will notice that the valves are de-shrouded for better air flow the same came be said of that of a 12g940 head.

The inlet and outlet ports are better flowing than that of the 1098 head. With a 1098 head the probable gains for the amount of work needed is pointless for bolting straight on.
Now if you were to modify said 1098 head de-shroud valves, port the head double valve springs etc etc then it will be worth it.
