Ebay Diagnistic Scanners?

Has anyone had any luck of tryied these diagnostic scanners sold on ebay on a '98 1.3 Mpi Cooper?

I would love to get one or something similar but I am afraid they wont work.

As far as I know they all use Rover Mems which isn't compatible with other systems. The kit still comes up for sale though.

Mems is a good system and is capable of tuning itself so you don't need to remap it for engine mods.

I recon you are right but I am seriously tempted to buy this one as it is so cheep and might work.

They say it works on all cars 96 and older and mine is 98 but maybe I am wasting my money?

NO NO NO none of those work, Rover used the J1962 connector for its diagnostic system but it is NOT obdiII compliant code. The MEMS2J requires rover specific software to decode it.

either get a Sykes and Pickavant code reader ACR4 with the rover 3 pod and mpi cable 30214000 or go to a newer version with the Ikey system which can do more functions.

this is another system worth looking into as well. says it can do all rover stuff including key fob programming and airbag, etc... http://www.blackbox-solutions.com/
