Model: mini 1000 city e
Year: 1989
Description of problem: engine keeps cutting out, will start & idle fine, then suddenly will start to stall and sometimes will cut out but sometimes will carry on running though coffing and spluttering. runs fine when it is running then suddenly cuts out. my thoughts are that it is the positive lead on the coil, as when i put my continuity tester onto this, the light was very dim (only when stalling, when running fine light is fine). i havent as yet been able to test it with a multimeter as the car is at my girlfriends (its her car!) and my tools are at home. just was wondering if anyone would agree with my assumption that it could be connector, or is there anything else it could be? points, condenser, and spark plugs all recently changed. hope someone can help us!! thanks!!

A bit late for your original post, but it could be the ignition barrel switch is showing its age.

It it turns over but won't start, see if you have a spark at the plugs and work back from there if you don't.

ok thanks, there is about 6 volts going to the coil +, which i have been told is right due to the mini having a ballast resistor on it? but i was wondering if it could be the earth lead on the coil isn't very good or something?
