    Starting My Mini Up

I have a 1980 Leyland mini and I'd like to put a lot more power into it. Everything in the mini is stock all the way down to the battery cover strap. The the car desperately needs a large power boost but I don't want to draw any extra attention to the car so it still looks original on the outside but is pretty fast (sleeper style). I'm not interested in building a race car, just having something that can produce 100+ BHP when I want it. Not sure were to go for a new engine yet. I've checked out the following places: Ebay, Mini Sport and Mini Speed but I figure before I even seriously consider the new power plant I should probably sport up the suspension and brakes first so the car can handle it.

After going through the new Mini Sport catalog I picked out the following kits:

SUSPENSION:

SUSCKIT02 Full Kit with GAZ 36pt shock absorbers 274.92

Comes with mini sport adjusta ride kit, adjustable tie rods, negative camber arms, negative camber and tracking rear brackets, lower arm poly bushes, tie rod poly bushes, and shock absorbers.

BRAKES:

MSLMS01 Full Kit - with 7.9" vented grooved discs 316.25

Comes with calipers, brake discs, brake pads, pad pins, and all necessary fittings

My questions:

1) Do these kits seem good enough to give me some decent handling after I change out my 998cc for something bigger (e.g. 1275cc or higher)?

2) Would you recommend I do anything else to improve the handling (e.g. reinforce the rear subframe...etc)? I'm sure wider tires would help but I'm trying to keep everything visible as stock looking as possible.

Thanks in advance for any advice! :D

the kits above will do wonders for the handling once set up properly, only things i would advise is to not use minisport. they have a very very bad reputation of messing customers around. i would recommend using minispares or min-its everytime and you will also save alot of money. check like for like on the website link below.

as for the dampers, the kayaba gas adjust range would suit your needs for a fast road mini and are a fraction of the price of the Gaz ones. i do believe minispares do a package with REAL hi lo's and the gas adjust dampers for around the £150 odd mark. all you would need for the road IMO :D
