I know mini's smell of petrol and oil but jeez its buzzing!!!

My mini doesnt have an interior at the moment so I can hear all the noise and smell al the smells as there no carpets, seats, etc. to block any of it. I only hd 1/4 tank in there yesterday and not a whiff of petrol. I put £20 in which filled the tank up to the neck and the petrol guage was passed the last marker :D and its quite badly smelling of petrol now inside, just opened the doors after being closed up all night and I thought I was gonna pass out!!!

I've checked the neck of the tank, and the petrol outlet pipe (brand new) and their not leaking. I've attached the rest of the brand new hose onto the vent at the top and the other end out the hole beside the engine feeding one but its still a bit stinky inside!

Is this because I have no interior? Filled it too much? Or is everyones this way?

have you got a split breather hose?

Check this, it attaches to the top of the tank, and also check it goes through the floor properly.

Also check for leaks in the engine bay, near the fuel pump, and carburettor.

There should be two pipes connected to the tank. One is obviously the feed that (usually) goes through the bootfloor, underneath the car to the engine. The other (the breather hose) comes from the top of the tank, and through the bootfloor and connects to nothing. If you don't have the breather then the fumes just collect in the cabin.

Check Carb float bowl/s and all petrol pipes in bay. If you can start engine :D check all around the carb/s, filter.
