Had my headunit and speakers sat in my room now for a few weeks because I haven't been able to get around to wiring them up.

Posted Image

These are the wires that are already in my mini, but they were tucked up behind the lower dash rail because it didn't come with a stereo system.

Wires from headunit.

Posted Image

And this is what I've got on the back of my headunit.

Posted Image

Do I need an adapter?

Posted Image

Wires that came with the speakers.

Posted Image

I haven't got a clue where anything goes, apart from the ariel.. that seems pretty straight forward :D but everything else is a mystery.

the speakers go on the green, white, purple and grey wires, where half of them have black stripes on too, they should have writing on saying if they are the front right, left or rear left or right, doesnt matter if you wire the speakers up to the front or back, just dont wire them up 1 on the front and one on the back both on the same side, otherwise it wont sound good! you wont have stereo effect! the red, yellow and other wires are to do with the power supply, i think one goes to the ignition so the stereo turns on and of with the car, one is for the power supply, there will need to be a constant feed for the stereo to keep its memory, there needs to be an earth, im guessing looking at your wiring loom in the car its the black one, (with the loop on the end, resting on your little finger) my earth has the same connector on the end, and is screwed to the side of my speedo, might go somewhere different in yours, and i have a blank blue wire in mine as well, and an orange wire, which is linked with the red wire, duno why, but it works!

So I need to strip the wires a little and use a spade connector?

yeah, i used spades in mine, or you can just use straight connectors, the tube ones and you crimp it either end!

So the speakers are sorted.

you need one of these:
Posted Image

you can plug it into the headunit, which will save you butchering the headunit wiring if you ever come to sell it or put it in another car etc

I'm pretty sure that the white and grey wires are the front speakers

and the green and purple are rears, you just need to look in the manual to tell you which is + and - otherwise the polarity will get reversed and it wont sound as good

then instead of finding a permanant live and a switched (ignition) live i would just wire a cable straight from the battery fitetd with an inline fuse (10amp) then wire it to the red and yellow. this will alow you to have the cd player on without needing to put the ignition on

black is earth

the blue is if your using an amp

and the orange you don't use

:D

NO, dont do that as it will mean the radio cant be turned off, and so will drain your battery, and light up your car at night advertising to passing thieves you have a tidy cd player ready to be plucked. There is a reason they make cd players turn off. Or if you do insist on doing this put a switch on the switched live wire so that it can be turned off atleast, I would never do that though. Why not do it properly in the first place.

As long as the faceplate is detached then it wouldn't actually be a problem - I think the HU only turns on and draws a current when the faceplate is attached.

Yes it can be turned off like Ouster says, detatch the faceplate, or if you have a kenwood cd player hold down the SRC button

as mentioned by others, it's perfectly fine to wire the switched lead to a constant 12v source. i actually prefer this method as i'm usually asked to demo my system at car shows/gatherings. since the ignition key is not present, i don't have to worry about someone starting the mini. in addition, since the radio is still on when a shut off the ignition, i'm reminded to remove/hide the faceplate.

I'm in he process of sorting some speakers out as I've already got a headunit. I'm fitting the head unit from scratch but The only wires I've got coming from the Mini are Blue, Green and the aerial, are there any missing or are these all I need?
