what amp in-line fuse would be needed? it's just a standard sony headunit (no subs/amps etc), with a 10A fuse built into the back of it, so I assume using the same rating fuse is the best bet?

yep 10! :)

theres normally spare terminals on the fuse box (i think each fuse hcan have upto 2 spade terminals) but if yours has had extra things added to them check what theyre running and let me know so i can advise you more.

You could always run the perm straight from the starter solenoid.

Fuse wise if the fuse in the head unit is rated at 10A id run maybe an 8A fuse somewhere else thats really easy to get at, so if it does blow its easier to change and it protects the head unit better.

Well, i got it all 100% sorted today but whoever had this mini before me made some bizarre alterations to the wiring. in the fuse box (engine bay) there should be, according to Haynes, 4 fuses: top 2 positions permanent lives, bottom 2 ignition lives (i think that was it, not got haynes with me atm); but instead only two of the four positions work (one perma, one switched), the top fuse position has nothing at all, no input, not output & no fuse and position 4 has in & out but no power, switched or otherwise. there are also random blade type fuses spliced into the loom at various places which I have yet to figure out what for! hopefully over the weekend I'll have time to turn bits & bobs on/off and take fuses out to see what's what.

I also managed to snap the live wire going into the washer stalk on the steering wheel, so now my spray won't work and it's a sealed plastic unit I can't repair, d'oh! :D

radio works thou, so some good news. I used a 10A in-line fuse, but I'll swap it out for an 8A if I have one spare.

I have got a radio to put in my mini. I have run all the speaker wires and the aerial wire to the radion but need to know how to connect the radio. Basically I know that the black goed to earth, then I am left with a yellow and red. The red is to the ignition live and yellow is to a permanent live. Can I connect both to a permenant live so the radio will work with the ignition off? I dont have any spare fuses in the fuse box so was Thinking to connect the starter solenoid where the battery leads connects to and then having an inline fuse, would this work or not. Thanks.
