Hi all,

As my clubman GRP bonnet always flaps around and wobbles at high speed I am looking into an aluminum bonnet.

So it got me thinking that a brushed alloy bonnet would look a bit nifty- but how do rolls royce (as they're the only cars I can think of that do that) "brush" their bonnets and how do they stop them from oxidizing?

Any ideas welcome, even if its a "would look *rubbish*!" lol

Sheets of aluminium can be ordered with a brushed finish. No need to do it yourself.

BMC or their competition department once made some alloy bonnets, they also did doors and boots - when i say some i do mean very few, there was a set on ebay a few months ago and they fetched well over £1000 all together.

Theres talk of someone trying to get some new alloy bonnets pressed, the problem they have is finding the right aluminium alloy apparently. Due to the extreme curvature of the mini bonnet, you need the right alloy otherwise it just wont mould, for various reasons.

Where did you get that bonnet from?!

on a panel like that they should have put in a kevlar cross or something similer.

Now, I know better.... it was a terrible product. the topside isn't even smooth!

got it from SMB composites, aka a chap called "smudger"

That would look good. A friend of mine stripped the paint off the roof of his mk1 golf but polished it up near mirror finish not brushed effect. To stop it from rusting it has layers of clear gloss over the top.
Only thing.... if its a Sunny day, you may get blinded from the bonnet lol.

The Rolls Royce Bonnet is Stainless, they show up every dirty mark, and i'd hate to clean it! Most of the people seem to have the bonnets painted and the rest of the brushed stuff polished. I'd sure what they probably do is polish it then dull it off with scotchbrite or something.
