hi guys - does anyone have any idea how much a kad 16v head twin cam conversion will cost me. im looking to have their entire kit giving me about 120 bhp - or if there is not much difference in price - their 140 bhp kit.

i currently have a standard 1275 block which i am prepared to bore out to a good bore for the road, i have twin inch and a half su carbs, stage 3 head and standard everything else.

cheers

from what i am led to believe its around a 8K exercise. its one of those how far do you want to go scenarios - with brakes, servos, rose jointed botom end, subrame reinforcement, fuelling system, mapping system and dyno time you could easily go upto £9500 if not more. It also kinda boils down to whether you're going to strap it all together yourself or have an experienced pro build it all up for you. Having a decent experienced pro build it up, install it and set it up properly might be 50-60 hours, so maybe another £1100 - £1300 quid.

I also have some pilots cans, but i dont have an aircraft of any kind.

I do have a 16V engine though, sadly not a KAD one but the next best alternative, a BMW conversion which surprisingly on paper ( dyno read-out ) produces 15BHP more than the KAD rig. We have however yet to get it running even remotely well in the car. going the route as a self install and swear / cry lots, you'll spend approx £5500.00 to £6500.00 but I strongly recommend getting someone to help who has a good idea what they are doing, especially when it comes to setting it all up and mapping the ecu. unless of course you are some kind of aeronautical genius mechanic - another safe assumption from the sig photo perhaps? :D

Forced induction if you want it to be drivable, won't cost anything near 8k, and from what i've heard is pretty reliable at around 120bhp, or you can stick with n/a but it will be a bit of pig to drive round town and won't be as easy to achieve.

At the end of the day, it's still got a mini gearbox so how long is it going to last? When they let go it just wrecks everything. It's not worth the money IMO.
