The benifits on a standard engine are none - Infact the engine oil might get overcooled and never get up to temperature.
There about £35 plus another £30 off for the hoses and most mini places sell them - Minisport, minispares etc
You only really need to fit one on highly tuned engines or engines that tend to get very hot - Such as a turbo or race engine. Its also advised that one is fitted ifd you fit a sump guard as sump guards greatly reduces airflow around the sump and its cooling fins.

Bottom line basically - They're pretty unnessesary in alot of cases.

It has been recommended that if you do fit one, that you should fit some form of oil thermostat inline with it, meaning the oil will only flow through the cooler if it exceeds a set temperature as like Mike said, you may risk cooling the oil down too much on a standard engine

Also could you use them oil flushers when you fit one? As I use them when I change my oil to get all the cr*p out and stuff, so just wondering if they would ruin it?

Cheers

Once an oil coolers got any *rubbish* in it, it won't come out. They're very hard to clean out properly. I wouldn't advice using those engine flush additives if you have one fitted.

However its only a 10 min job to take the cooler off and refit the standard oil pipe if you were doing an oil change and wanted to flush the engine through.
