Can anyone tell me the correct level of oil required in a SU HS4 Carb's DASHPOT ?
She's a 1981 1000 HL Auto
The haynes manual states 12.7mm above the top of the hollow piston rod
I pulled the "rod" out of the Dashpot and it has a "ball" on the end. Does it mean above or below this ??
Cheers

Just fill it up untill the inner tube (where that 'ball-thing'-damper goes in) is full.
Too much doesn't matter... Put the damper back in - and ready you are.
If you put too much oil in - put the damper in anyways and lift the piston in the carb up with your finger.
This will squeeze the excessive oil out of that tiny hole in the black plastic cap (use a towel to prevent a mess
).
(too much oil will be squeezed out anyways - plus mess up your engine bay thats why you should squeeze it out manualy
)
That's it!

If it makes squelchy noises when you remove the damper there's enough oil. With the engine off it's at its lowest point so if the damper reaches the oil it will be fine.
