quick one - might need a new battery and I'm looking to put a bit of Ice in the mini

I believe (did search) that people put PUG 306 diesel batteries in as they are much bettery than standard - is this correct????

How much is "a bit of ice"? If it's a lot, you'll need to upgrade the alternator and may need a yellow top battery instead.
If you can get a trade card at Halfords (turn up with a load of motorfactors receipts) then the battery will drop to around £30.

Do they really drop that much, useful to know if they do!

You can fit an 063, 065, 075 or 027 in a mini battery tray with the 027 being the most powerfull of the lot at around 540CCA which is more than double the original battery. You may find you have to adjust the clamp a fair bit to get an 027 to fit and the spare wheel is a bit of a squeeze to get in / out. I have a Halfords trade card and you get about 40% off batteries. Regarding battery prices you generally get what you pay for i.e a £99 3 yr gaurantee battery from Halfords will be much better quality and outlast a £49 1 yr battery from a motor factor.

Not sure what advantage you'd see from fitting a high power battery to a mini, warmer battery cables?

A higher capacity battery will help if you intend sitting in your car, trying to burst your eardrums, for extended periods without the engine running. You really need a bigger alternator if you want to use more amps than your current one makes.
