Ive decided to fit a flamer kit for my car, I know ill get alot of stick being called a chav and all of that, but I think its a realy cool feature for show use and after seeing one in the flesh im going for it.

Am i right in thinking that using a second coil, with the - terminal attatched to the ignition coil's - terminal and the + of the flamer coil attatched to a switched 12v supply with a ht lead and spark plug in the tailpipe will give me the flames.

Also how would I split the ht lead to have 2 plugs for a twin tailpipe setup?

Obviously I will never use it on the road as its quite dangorous and will only be used in a safe situation i.e shows

Thanks in advance,

awaits being called a chav.

There is two ways of doing it.

Either have it set up so that when you flick a switch you have a constantly sparking plug in the exhaust and all it does it ignite any unburnt fuel that may be in the exhaust gas.

OR, you have it set up so that when you press a momentary switch, the ignition to the engine cuts out and the plug in the exhaust starts to spark. This idea basically dumps lots of unburnt fuel into your exhaust. You'll have big flames but you will be mixing raw fuel with the oil in your cylinders which will not only wear out your rings quickly, but also wear everything else out in the engine that requires oil.

Still want one? If you really do get the first option. A Mini is going to have more unburnt fuel in the exhaust than most cars out there anyway, and you've allways got the choke to pull out for more.

You need a coil, ht lead, plug, wires, switch and a module/relay that makes the plug spark at a very fast rate. You can buy the modules off eBay for about 20 quid.

Or theres always the good old fassioned way that involves no flamer kit. Run the engine and get the exhaust warm, bring up the revs quite high, turn the engine off and straight back on again with your foot planted to the floor, that will shoot flames, but won't do your engine any good.

I used to want one before I grew up >_<

Any flamer kit is going to bugger something up, especially as your vented petrol tank is right above the exhaust! Boom.

My Mini shoots flames well over a foot long, but I don't have a flamer kit, just a tuned engine with a supercharger

Yeah, im not grown up and am very excited by big loud bright things, >_<

I cant find the relay to make the plug flash quickly, I could only find the total kits, that are far to expensive for what they are.

It doesn't look like he has any on there at the moment but this fella;

Will sell you just the ignition module on its own :bah: About 18quid or so I was quoted a long time ago.

Ive done quite a bit of research on loads of forums, people have just given the coil a feed and its given them flames, is this module realy required, what will a coil do if its just given a 12v supply.

Hmmm I dont understand how people are getting flames with just a 12v supply then. Ok after even more research it seems that people are doing the switching themselves i.e having the coil feed activated by a switch and flicking it as fast as possible, so it seems i will need a module that will do the switching for me. Some people have used indicator flasher relays which gives flames at the rate of the indicators. I may need to find one of these flasher modules.

The 12v is the supply to the coil which is the low tension side then youve got the high tension which is the output of the coil to the dizzy which is 40 or 50 odd thousand volts iirc, if you were to put a switch to the 12v supply everytime you switched it off then on you'd get a spark, by the looks of it to me the module that you get is like a quickfire switch/relay.

Yeah I have a basic understanding of a coil so will need a module for the fast switching, (scour's google)

Could'nt you just interupt the switched negative feed to the coil on the car and wire it through a switch to the coil for the flamer kit so when you flick the switch the coil on the engine stops and all the unburnt fuel goes down the exhaust while the flamer kit coil is now fed with the switched negative from the dizzy?

Yes you could do that, but it would pour fuel into the cylinders which from what I have been told will react with the little bit of oil in there causing damage, but I cant see it being too much of a problem for the small amount of time it will be used. I still need the pulser module for the spark to occur more than once, once turned on. Anyone know where I can find one? I dont fancy making one of the modules described on the link jimbo posted.

I found this, ebay

It would work but its a bit expensive, does anyone know of a cheaper alternative?

Could an indicator flasher relay be made to work as the pulser, but it would need a quite heavy load on it to flash.
