Hi, I intend on getting some 13x7 alloys, but was wondering what you people think is better for road use, for fast cornering standard suspension or uprated suspention and hi-lo's. As a couple of people i know said that standard ones were better. cheers

sorry about spelling mistake in title, I dont know how to change it >_<

Depends on a lot of things not least your own driving style. I'd just get the original suspension in good order with new, uprated, bushes etc and take it from there. One step at a time. you'll need to do a little body modifying to run 13 inch wheels. 7 inches is wider than necessary in my opinion.

Cheers for your help. I like the look of the deep dish ones, and i like fat tyres so i dont mind. How much work on the body will need doing, do you know?

cheers.

I have edited your Topic title and inserted a subtitle so that people know what the thread is about. I've also edited out the spelling mistakes and Txt talk.

Text talk on forums is often hard to read and understand, It's also not needed when you have a fully operational keyboard infront of you. People that may be able to help you might not even know what you're saying. You have a keyboard with all 26 letters of the alphabet on,... please use it >_<

Back onto topic:

You need to decide which arches you're going to fit to cover up the wheels as they will definaltey stick out from the wing. There are FREE templates on the Minispares website that you can print out and use as a guide to show you how much you will need to cut out of the wing to enable you full use of the steering. It can be anything from taking a little off the front of the wing (about 1.5") to cutting a larger section out right the way around.

I would also recommend re-folding the wing lip once the cutting is done, it gives the panel it's rigidity back and eliminates the possiblility of slashing your tyres when you go over bumps.

Good luck with it :D

i find i have to fight the 13" wheels a bit the low profile and the width tramline a bit (as the do on all cars with big aftermarket wheels)

low profiles are sensitive to camber angles as there is little give in the tyre wall

the sky is the limit for fast cornering fully adjustable rod end sup arms with solid mounted sub fames etc,

hi los are great for setting the ride height but do not effect anything else

a good set of dampers is a good place to start (sportpack minis where fitted with konis as standard) and they help reduce the risk of your rear wheels hitting the arches

I have stup the suspension on cars with these huge wheels and can get them to handle well and reduce the tramlining.

you do need to ensure that *all* your suspension is in top order, you *do* need to trim the wing - especially if you fit the adjustable bottom arms and tie-rods and get it setup correctly.

Dave

hi los are great for setting the ride height but do not effect anything else

When you change the front ride height, it also has an effect on camber, and the front wheel alignment...

agread icklemini at the front a bit more negative, the chamber changes in bump and roll, front tracking shouldnt change when lowering does it?, if it does there is bump steer, but I have never measured bump steer on a standard mini.

yes tracking changes hugely - the mini has a lot of bump steer as standard..
