Another update.Dad has been busy making the bottom of the bulkhead after the old one looked like some attacked it with a hole punch :) .

The rear should be welded up before christmas as my dad has 12 days off and i finish next friday :o .

The before after some had already been cut out

Most of the bad bits cut out

Posted Image

The middle section made up and welded together then tacked on but it now has been completely remoevd as the rest has to be removed

Posted Image

Posted Image

The whole rear section made up.Needs to be finished off as its just tacked together.

Posted Image

Fits pretty damm well.

Also found a colour i like as i wanted tartan red but the cost of cans to spray the inside(the outside will be sprayed by a pro, where just doing the inside).Went for mazda classic red which is about as close as it gets with it being slightly lighter.

The bottom of the bulkhead has now been 99% finished .Just needs a skim of filler to finish it off.

The mazda red looks good with the red primer but grey primer makes it pink, haha.

Next is the big welding adventure for my dad with the boot floor >_<

Thanks for the comment, it took my Dad longer than he thought to make it but it came out well. If all goes well then the boot floor will start to go in Fri and then the final repair sections to the bulkhead can be fiited once the inner arches are installed.

Boot still ines up so it hasn't moved :D

The seat plane has been spot welded to the heelboard and seam/spot welded to the bulkhead and right hand side companion box(the left hand box still needs to be replaced)

The welds turned out great and blend in great.

Right hand arch welded in and ground down.

All welds will be seam sealed eventually.

Nothing happened over christmas, my Dad was really ill last crimbo so he didn't want a repeat this year.

On the plus side some more panels arrived last week, 2 bump stop panels and 2 close out panels for the rear valance. My dad will finish installing the battery box tomorrow after its been cut to bits, sectioned and re welded.

It only fitted on one side so the other three sides had to either cut and sectioned or completely cut off and a new section fitted to match the contour of the boot floor, very frustrating for Dad. :)

Hopefully this cold weather will bog off so we can be out in the garage more often. Roll on the summer.

by the way sorry to sound a bit of a pleb but what are those things you used in the above picture? Where they to help line it up? (I'm an amateur when it comes to welding)
