as promised some time ago i finally got started once the temp in my garage went above freezing - first step was to take off the step as I'd messed up the alignment when I rebuilt it three years ago, once thats done the first girder goes inside the sill

I think you need to type more of a story out to make it an interesting read, I've noticed lots of projects with pictures alone stop, but those with text and reasoning explained seem to do a lot better. Look at the Prject Leftovers in Other projects to see what I mean!

You've clearly got a lot of ability, and I imagine a lot of us could take inspiration from that, but i don't think the pictures do you justice!

they are hadrian, bought from minimail (local supplier and excellent place to get advice) - all the hadrian panels i've had have been pretty good so far - maybe I've just been lucky but i wouldnt use them for wings - having said all that I've jus checked the a panels and they are magnum - www.magnumcarpanels.co.uk - and they are a really good fit so maybe the new panels I've bought are from there

OK so this is how it all started - I bought a basket case GT about 5 years ago for resto - it needed a lot of work - far more than i thought and it took two years on and off in the garage to get it to an Mot standard,

sorry about the duplicates first job was panel replacement and fettling in general - first mistake was not to take reference points whaen fitting the door steps so the steps were too low and there was a gap between them and the door which bugged me for a long time

once all the panels were done I thought about mods to the GT and so I fitted a front rad and electric fan from a metro - it was surprisingly easy and still left good access to the plugs etc, did have to cut the front panel around a bit but not too much - more to follow

once i'd finished the panel work she looked like this -

I hand painted it (yes it looked a mess) got it through the MoT no probs and ran it for a bit through the summer then got bored and she sat in the garage for a year gathering dust - late last year I was going to change my old primera for a squishy civic but decided I'd rather have another project esp as the prim runs on LPG and it'd be stupid to get rid off when gas is 57p/l, so i looked around for a convertible kit - keiths had died and i never really liked them because of the rollbar and window frames and nevr thought they were really strong enough - the rover and lamm ones were going for stupid money so i found the autofashion kit - and old one but one that mimics the rover conversion but stronger, £550 later it was mine.

and away we go again - this was going to give me the opportunity to sort out those door steps once and for all

Looking good, did you buy the autofashion kit new, or was it on ebay or somewhere?

I bought it direct off autofashion - you could buy the metal a lot cheaper but you are paying for their knowledge and experience and instruction so i thought fair enough, if i was to do it again I'd buy the metal and fabricate it myself - once you've gone this deep into a mini you tend to know the ins and outs of what needs doing, I've added some extra strengthening where i thought it would help. Basically you have to try and stop it snapping in the middle and to get the doors to fit , my doors fit well and have double checked that by getting someone to jump up and down on the cross member while I open and shut the door - this is one strong mini!
