Right this winter the mini is coming from up from the barn and into the garage as dad has given it to me for a work shop

the plans are for a new engine as this is the only thing letting the car down

the plan is for a 1330 engine:

work:

engine re-bore +0.60
clean oil ways and renew oil gallery plugs
lap in new pressure valve
regrind journals on crank
balance crank, pistons and flywheel

Engine will also be dry decked.

Cylinder head:

purchased a slark racing stage 3 head:
ported and polished
modified chambers
bronze guides
double valve springs
35.7 inlet and 31mm exhaust

Cam:

kent 286

Carbs:

thought i would go for something a bit different so im going Yamaha R6 bike carbs with a 38mm choke.
with a "bit" of modification i should be able to get them onto a 1.5" su manifold.

Transmission:

standard box
X-pin diff
s/c drop gears

looking forward to the winter build :) should be interesting

Not sure what sort of power I will get from this build? If anyone want to hazard a guess feel free :)

I'm
In the process of looking round for se quotes to compare against each other for the above engine work so if any one can recommend or if you your self are part of a firm who can quote me on the work please do contact me :)

Cheers Hughzy.

Sounds like a nice idea. Depending on how well the carbs work I would guess at that making a healthy 85-90-odd horsepower. What are your plans for ignition? Dizzy? Megajolt?

And yes, pics please

Sounds good, i would drop benross of tm and see what bits he can do for you. Med is another one for good quality engines.

This sounds very similar as to what I was going to do to my 1330, although I'm going down the turbo route now. I was looking (and was told), I'd get between 90-100BHP :)

Little update, These are The bike carbs I purchased. They are yamaha R6 38mm carbs and they were a bargain.

These are the carbs modified to fit the su manifold which is also custom as you will see below. To do this only 2 out the 4 were need to first had to split them and get the spacing spot on to suit the rubber mounts and manifold, also the extension on the throttle linkage, balancing pipe, fuel in and fuel return lines :tongue2:

Here's the new cylinder head. It's a slark racing stage 3 head 35.7mm exhaust and 31mm inlet fitted with comp everything.

Also my modification to my manifold.

Did another couple of hours in my girlfriends garage tonight.

Inlet rubber came for the carbs on Saturday so fitted those to manifold, also re spaced the carbs to suit.

They look pretty cool bolted to the head don't you think?

Posted Image

Main concern are they going to get under the bonnet?

I built an engine to this spec, it was very nippy. Around the 95bhp mark. Love the bike carbs.

If they dont fit under the bonnet, set the bonnet on bonnet pins and have it lifted up at the back? Might be something to think about, but i think youll be ok.
