Kent cams actually make the swiftune camsI've not used Swiftune because I like Kent, have used Kent lots of times and like the way thier cams feel and work, but I guess this is a matter of opinion, but defo go with something along the lines of a 286 profile. All I can say though - don't use Piper!

If they re-grind the 276 and 286, then they are taking material off the lobes which must reduce the performance of the cam giving it less lift.

They wouldn't re-profile it to loose power. It's to aid smooth delivery. The profiles are punched in to the machine at Kent cams. They come in a kent cam box with SW10 sw5 , scatter or whatever on it.

Well I do know that the engine I am getting has a kent 286 cam with it, but it needs to be re-ground due to it being scored by the follers etc... (long story)

there isnt alot of information available on the SW range of cams, swiftys website is down and i cant seem to find any other info
i dont think they change the lift, more the agressiveness of the cam, to produce a smoother power delivery, and it works, i have the SW5, compared to the many Kent cam'd cars ive been in, id choose the SW

Right after speaking with a friend...
as I drive the mini like a race car on the open roads, and like a learner though twon he has advised the 276 cam (or SW5) so thanks for all the info guys, I never knew there was A SW5 until you lot said about it
Its a SW5 unless they do the SW10 now!

A 276 would be waisted in an engine that big, maybe a 998 or a standard 1275, but because of the extra engine capacity it will cancel the effects of the cam out. Go for a 286 or equevilant profile. I don't know were people get the idea that 286's are a nightmare to drive, they're not, they have a fairly good idle, are good around town, good at slow speeds and pull like a train when you open it up. Even my 296 had a good ilde.
As for the aggressiveness of the cam, that again is a personal taste, I like my cams to be all or nothing, I like the 3000rpm and it comes on cam feeling but others prefer it to be more progressive which is were the SW range of cams come in I guess.

Wouldn't mind the feeling of the engine really pulling if you know what I mean...
like a turbo kicking in at 3000...
So I might stick the cam on ebay and get anouther 286 cam

Dunno..
All I know is that when a mechanic was fitting a new head gasket he over tightened that rockers...
this then caused some swaff and scored the cam and the crank... everything else is spot on!

Dogmatix, The 286 cam is spot on, A little lumpy in idle but once you get the revs over 1500 it pulls like a train!
