Supercharge an auto....Mmmmm, well I dont see why it cant be done physicly, unless space is an issue...but you will be putting three times more power through the auto box than the standard engine was putting out. I know a manual box can handle around 120 bhp and be ok. But your looking at 150bhp. God knows what that would do to an auto box. But my guess would be........BANG!!...crunch!! and lots of bits in the oil.

Yes, I agree, the auto boxes aren't the strongest by any means. Imagine if it went bang and took out your engine too :(

To quote Martin from MRA, "Yes it has been done, so have turbo's and 1400cc + all putting out loads of torque......" Auto boxes are not as weak as people think. There are some parts that can be upgraded to take the extra power.

I said that :)

And I stand by it... the automatic transmission has a case that is so much stronger than the manual.... which incidentally there is a manual on the scene with 318bhp

Back to auto.... the choice of components is critical, some parts will be fine others need uprating much as per manual really, people get all scared about the auto's because its the great unknown, and apparently works on Voodoo and other black magic :D

Also if it did go bang the chances are your engine would survive or at least stand a greater chance of survival when compared to a manual box....

and once you get the sort of torque you are talking about the auto will out accelerate a comparable manual, simply because the gearchanges are 20 times quicker.... and the automatic is designed for torque, ie torque convertor multiplies torque from a standing start.

Sorry to correct you there, Martin, but from what I hear, running an auto with "black magic" is a bad idea. Regular oil changes save auto gearboxes:) jk

uprated plates, bands are a start, we have a set list of parts that need to be modified, for commercial reasons we only fit them in to a full rebuild, we do not sell them individually...

Appologies if this seems a little harsh, however we need to protect our business.
