You don't need to drain anything just to test the fan.

Yeah but removing the temp sensor means that some fluid will come out; surely?

EDIT: I'm being stupid, aren't I. You can just unplug the sensor :P

You don't remove the sensor, just disconnect it. Leave the bit with the spanner flats in place, and unplug the brown connector from it. No water, just wires!

Okay, just done that;

The fan doesn't turn on. Tried it with just ignition on, also tried it with the engine actually on.

So what does that mean? Have I still various things to check?

Can you put some power directly to the fan? Just to check it works independently.

Not sure how I can do that. D'you know of any way? I mean, I can find 12V but I don't know whether the relay steps down the power to the actual fan..

As far as I know it is 12v. I think there are just two wires to the fan, so you could unplug it, then use some wire to attach a battery to the two contacts in the plug.

The fan also has a relay, but I'm not sure where that is. I'll have a look in the Haynes, to see if that reveals anything.

Simon: I hope to be in the UK this weekend for Brooklands, I can bring my code reader to see if there's a fault in the ECU and to test the fan activating from the ECU.

Hi..

No need to now, I got it sorted a while ago.. just forgot to say on here.

But.. it would be nice to see what fault codes I've got showing up, so if you don't mind, I fancy a meet up and test. :D
