Could anyone talk me through the steps of changing from a standard mini grille to a mk1 with moustache, Possibly with pics,

Its pretty simple, if you open your bonnet, you need to unscrew the chrome strip and drill the spot welds along the piece of metal the chrome attaches too.....hopefully that makes sense, after that its a case of drilling a few new holes for the mk1 grill and moustache.

You can also use grille buttons to hold the grille on instead of screws.

I'm in the middle of changing mine. I'm going to screw the moustache on and use buttons for the grill.

glad someone asked this as i am planning it as soon as i get funds. can i just ask a quick question, apart from the Lip on the later Bonnets is that the only difference from the earlier types?

Take a look at the front of my grandson's 1997 MPI on the current thread about rust on here. The grill and surround came from Mini Spares. Excellent quality.
The early bonnets without the lip have different hinge positions, so the lip has to be removed on later cars. You may need to paint the front of the bonnet unless you are very careful when removing the lip.

Yep just remove the lip and the MK1 grill will fit.

Ebay is way too expensive, but I got mine from there after weeks of trying to get a decent deal.
Minispares do the full kit including whiskers for £131 all in I think
