I've got a tiny bit of rust around my N/S headlight.

It's fully undersealed and waxyol'd behind & this area will be covered up my the headlight seal & bowl so it isn't visible. But I want to stop and treat it now.

How do I go about doing so?

Bloody hell that's gutting seeing as its just finished. You will have to take it back to bare metal then see if its just surface rust. If so treat it with Krust or another product of your choice. If its pitting slightly then you may have to spot blast it. At least this will keep any paint damage localised. If its bad pitting then maybe you will have to think about replacing that small section. Not the thing you want to hear i know but its possibly something that may have to be done.

Once that's done where you have the seam try and force some rust treatment in there. Then some zinc rich primer followed by sealing the seam like i did on Erm. Then prime and top coat.

this shouldnt happen and i m sure that if a body shop did all the prep work they should be responsible for this and should correct it at their expense because this should no happen if the shell has been prepped and painted correctly.

I have no idea what the history is of your car but anybody restoring an old car is wasting their time unless they have the shell blasted in my humble opinion.

Paul.

not wasting your time is u use good rust inhibitor as this can actually be better than blastin on seams and on metal overlaps. the best option would definatly be acid dip and e-coated after

Check the pics about 1/3 down THIS PAGEto see what this guy did to solve the ring rusting issue. Extreme but well worth it IMO.

Analogue_radio - What colour have you painted your car by the way?

p.s. I can see paint gaps on the top of the ring in the first pic, are you sure the bodyshop prep'd it properly. I would contact them and ask if they will correct their mistake.

Never thought of lead loading like that to seal all of the joints, radical approach but what a good idea.

You should check out the other things he's done to his car like smoothing the bonnet & lead loading other areas. He has done a thorough & excellent job.

I was just thinking, I wonder if you could tin the edges of panels being welded together (front panel to wings etc), then spot weld them? The heat from the welding would slightly melt the lead forming a really good seal all around the weld then you could seam seal etc. It would take slightly longer to prep but would give ultimate protection.

if the painter has any pride in what he does im sure he will repair it for you, and judging by the finish of the paint, he does:)

Wow didn't expect this much response.

Yeah the finish of the paint and the rest of the shell is fantastic, this is the only area that has gone a bit pear shaped.

I will email these photos through to my painted and suggest that he sorts it, as I don't fancy taking a knotted wire wheel to my fresh paint myself.

@ Brams96 - The colour is Sandy Beige.

I will let you all know any updates! Thank you!
