Being that it's a Cooper....would it not already have a 295 head on it and 56hp already? ( if indeed an Inno Cooper )

The Inno Cooper 1300 has virtually a complete Cooper 'S' engine fitted with 'S' head, twin HS4 carbs, a 510 cam, 3-into-1 ex. manifold, etc. But I don't know what the earlier 998 Innos had although with a Cooper badge they should have been 998 Coopers.

Yes....but we're talking about a Cooper ( not S ) as the OP mentioned>

Yes, but if it is a genuine Inno 998 Cooper then John Cooper will have received his royalty for use of his name and the car should surely have a full 998 Cooper specification. I only alluded to the Cooper 1300 to illustrate what happened with the Innocenti Cooper 1300, which was really the last of the true Cooper 'S's.

Got a feeling that the MK1 came with a 295 head as standard equipment

Arrg....LOL.
Cooperman.

He said it's a MkI Inno Cooper....
This would have had a Cooper engine....with 295 head.
That's all.... not sure why you're arguing....lol

I didn't think I was arguing - as if ;D

If it's an Inno Cooper 998 it will have a 295 head and twin carbs.

Innocentis are such lovely cars and the instrument panel - WOW!

Hi there

I didnt roll over any car so far :) thank God and I hope that I will never be in this situation. The engine has only one carburator (it was probably repleced)
Lot of parts are missing (right door, stearing wheel inno badge front grill, alternator, 1 seat, windshield, )

couple of photos i hope that the engine is correct :) i am worried because it has only one carburator :)

When I see pictures like that I can imagine how over the years a car is neglected and parts are robbed off of it for other vehicles.

However, looking at the first picture above I just have to wonder what happened to the moustache around the grille. I cannot imagine a situation other than vandalism that would twist that poor part upwards and into the vacant headlamp hole. It makes me both sad and angry.

I also look at pictures like yours and think of the car in its glory. I think of the day when someone nearly 45 years ago walked into a dealership, pointed at the Inno and said "I want that one".

You have a big project ahead of you but very rewarding both personally and financially if you are able to find the missing Inno parts.

Is that an "8" on the engine number tag?
If so, it's an 848.
By tthe dash and engine bay....looks like it may not be a Inno Cooper, but an Inno Minor Mk1 ( late with the HS4 )
It does have the taller brake master though...maybe all Inno's did ( ? )

The MK1 inno cooper had the cooper S instruments, its the MK2 that had the 5 binnacle dash with rev counter, and the export had a 6 binnacle dash.
By the way, have a look at the engine number and the cylinder head number.

No the pre export model had the 5 guage dash along with the MK3 Cooper
Mk 2 and Mk 3 850's also came with a 295 head as standard
