Well replaced engine mounts and stabiliser bushes are all good but there is still slight movement and when I find the bite it will jolt the engine

Is there a gearbox mount?? Or another mount somewhere that will cause this??

Cheers

Two engine mounts. One top stabiliser, one bottom stabiliser. (gearbox)

Theres a stabiliser on the side of the gearbox to the front of the subframe too if you've not done that.

What are your subframe mounts like?

Yeah done top stabiliser with the earth strap on
And ok to be honest bottom left stabiliser looks fine..can they be deceiving in looks?? I haven't changed them but look ok??

Subframe mounts...I have no idea :/
Are they bolted to the floor?? Is there just two of those? Either side??

Subframe theres 6 mounts. I think the main ones that can give you a knock at the the ones mounted to the floor near the pedals. Check the condition of the floor around the mounts.

Yeah, theres 2 on the front panel of the car under the bumper, 2 on the bulkhead crossmember of the car behind the little triangle pieces connected to the inner wings, and then the 2 floors ones.

the ones by the rack tend to catch the oil - so the rubber seperates

they are easy enough to change - if you like oil / muck

Yeah love the oil and muck me :P

Fairly confident it's none of the engine mounts/stabilisers so looks like I've found my next job :)

Don't bother changing the subframe mounts, as the rear ones break very quickly, even when not exposed to oil. Just replace all six with a solid mount kit. It really does improve the handling.

Don't mix solid and rubber mounts, or you will regret it, because the shell will crack.

How come they fail all the time???
Ive heard solid mounts can crack the floor anyway??

Thanks for the heads up but I think as it's a standard 998 I'll probably just replace with standard mounts
I thought the solid ones were more for performance cars...with more power and all that??

early minis all had solid subframe mounts, that's how they were designed; they changed to rubber in the 70's to appease the new demographic so there's no need for it to be a performance car to have solid subframe mounts.

Ohhh right thanks for the info
I assume the rubber ones work though?? Or are the solid ones an upgrade really worth it?

Assume there is price differences?

Cheers

Right had a look today and i found four...the floor ones and the front two

The only one that looked bad is the drivers side floor one as it looks like the rubber has come away from the metal..but the others seem fine

Im about to go and search for the other two :)

Ahh I assume its the two big nuts :)

If I fit solid kit at front should you fit solids at the back?? :)
