OK, guys, you probably forgot about this one....Ive been moving on with the prep work on this little monster, and so sold the 8 Port (didn't want to have to deal with a GBP5000 "boom" or "crunch" noise) and went with one of these little buggers (Darren's working away on it as we speak!):

http://www.pro-motive.co.uk/4.html

I am also doing a SUPER lightweight build on it, while keeping the mk1 shell as original as I possibley can. Right now I'm planning:

R1 kit from promotive
10" Force Racing three-piece wheels
Force racing Ti Centerlock kit
8.4" KAD binders front
Minifins Rear
KAD ally swing arms rear
Beam axle
Coilovers front and rear
CF boot cover from Carbonweezel
CF bonnet cover from same
CF front and rear bumpers from same
CF dash (undecided on style as of yet)
CF Miglia arches
Perspex windows except for front screen
Porsche GT3 racing CF buckets
Rear mounted fuel cell
Sealed gel cycle battery, Odyssey
Force Racing alloy pedal kit
etc.
etc.

Should be fun!

I'll post piccies as there is something to show.

Can one of the Admins move this to Non-mini engined and edit the subtitle to reflect the engine change?

Yeish, please provide us with some pictures, your such a tease!

boom or crunch noises? explain? just out of interest, you got the spec on the 8 port, also... how much did you let it go for?

do they have a tendancy to do that? (8 ports). Thought it would be a smoother more efficient design to be honest. Much more performance, better intake, better oulet... Same stresses as standard

people dont tend to bolt 8 ports onto a std engine and definatley dont drive them like a std engine 8k+ will wear an engine quite fast i'd imagine lol

so an 11 stud 1300gt block with centre main strap, ARP bolts, 5/16's gearbox bolts, nitrocarbonised crank, omega pistons and cooper s conrods with cosworth fully floating little ends should be fine :dontgetit:?

What I meant guys was that I had 5K pounds + into it and didn't want to be staring at a bill of similar magnitude to fix anything if it all went wrong. Call me paranoid, but $800 to $1500 US for a "throw-away" R1 seemed a safer alternative to my pocketbook and I wouldn't have to worry about the engine grenading itself every time I got on it. The 1380 was mint, it had a genuine 8 port Arden head, 4 Amals on an A+ block, EN40B bladed crank, forged rods and pistons, MED racing box with X-pin, etc etc. so was as mice as they come bascially. Was built by MED a couple of years ago and I bought it off of a chap Andy (who has since built a really nice VTEC Z-Cars kit) who was buying a kit from Chris at Z-Cars. I kept the car in my garage for a year but then sold it at at a small loss to a rich guy in Ecuador....

I now have some funds on top of my kit from Darren and Phillip to find a low mileage R1 with a replacement cost in the above-stated $800 to $1500 range and I can wind it out all day long without losing any sleep.

Cheers,

Aric

OK, now this thread is official NOT a Mini Engined build as I picked this lettle gem up this evening off ebay:

Attached File  b808_12.jpg   49.76K   110 downloads

Attached File  bde3_12.jpg   43.62K   83 downloads

http://cgi.ebay.com/...em=130147015074

2002 Yamaha YZF R1 Engine - BRAND NEW - Zero Miles Item number: 130147015074

Quote from the listing:

"This is a brand new engine in the factory crate. It has no mileage and is ready for immediate installation. It will be shipped in its original high-quality factory crate with custom stand (see photos)."

Smokin' deal, Winning bid: US $1,103.00

Doesn't make up for the exchange rate between USD and GBP, but at least something's cheap in the US still....
