I'm feeling quite pleased now:

99 MPI 38mpg round town/motorway, 48mpg on A roads.

Strange thing is when I changed the coolant fan harness something seemed to re-set the ECU and I got about 55mpg on the motorway for a few weeks then it settled back to normal.

Can't beat my first mini, 84 998cc used to get nearly 60mpg on a long run with over 100k on the clock.

If Rover Was Still In Business Today, I Believe That The Mini, Even In Today's Society, Will Still Be A Sales Success. Its Cheap To Run, Easy To Maintain, Ideal For Beginner Drivers And Its Very Fuel Efficient... A few People On This Chat Mentioned Their Mini's Doing 50 Mpg + :D :w00t: :o

I forget, when I had my first Mini and took it off the road for some work it stopped running. I'd just passed and was desperate to get it on the road, finally worked out it was an iffy carb and it would only run set to as rich as it would go. Ran like crap, the torque was like an on/off switch. On at low revs so pulling away from junctions without spinning was difficult at times, but by 2.5k rpm it spluttered and wouldn't accelerate.

Filled up at home, went to see the girlfriend and ran out of petrol a few minutes before I got back to my house. Probably managed about 23 miles to that tank. New carb arrived the next day.

The Mini wasn't a sales success for at least it's last decade, if not two. It wouldn't have a chance now for many reasons.

Don't know, never worked it out. Never quite felt right, MLMotorsport had a look and said it needed an 'optimisation tune' as so many components had been changed over the years. It was also a stage 1 with an iffy carb needle. I wrote it off the week it was supposed to go into them so never got it sorted out properly. Didn't do too badly on fuel though. Years ago now.

I Was Thinking More Like Producing A Limited Production Of 500 Mini's But Obviously Make Them A Little Bigger And Make Them Comply With The Euro NCAP Regualtions Etc...

You can build a brand new Mini I think. I'm sure someone did not so many years ago with a collapsible column etc and got it through the tests. It would cost a bomb though. And for a manufacturer to do it would be silly as they'd just loose loads of money, or would have to price them way above their true value. I'm pretty sure BMW aren't going to start manufacturing classics next to the buses either.

You could also argue that a Mini a 'little' bigger to comply with safety regs and modernisation is a Bini.

Is it £6k these days? That inflation's a dangerous thing. I remember when they were a whisker over £2k, last I looked they were £3.5k/£4k. The shells are only really for reshelling. Building a Mini up as new to be registered as a new car is a different ball game. Might be able to register it as a kit car I suppose and have it on a Q plate, which may negate some of the safety requirements. In fact that may be the only way to do it. Still, the Classic Mini on sale today would be a massive flop, as proven in the 90's before Kia and Hyundai were turning out surprisingly good cars for relatively little cost and 7 years warranty.

If you're curious about how a modern, ultra cheap, ultra simple car will sell in the current market, watch Dacia and see how well they do. Considering every young person seems to buy £12k Corsas on finance now, I reckon no one but a few old dears will buy one.
