When i did a 6 day trip to the Nurburgring in my mpi i averaged 53.6 mpg. Cant remember now how many miles we covered but was really pleased with it.
That was with mostly motorways cruising at 60-70 mph there & back, three laps round the ring & country road sight seeing trips :D

Worked out my MPG today and I got 42mpg over the past week. I have a standard 998 engine but I do think I have a leaded foot so that doesn't help!

Also, I have to say that is all city driving in stop start traffic.

Worst is about 10 mpg on very twisty stages in the 1293 'S'.
Best was about 43 mpg, but that was almost 50 years ago in my first 850 Mini.
The Datsun 240Z I used to rally in did 4 to 5 mpg on forest stages! Glad I didn't have to pay for the fuel.

My 1275 MG Metro powered Midas did around 42 mpg all day every day driven to the red line most of the time, and about 90 mph down the motorways, the traffic wasn't so bad 20 years ago. Once got around 70 mpg following a very steady friend to Suffolk.

Brimmed then down to the red, and back again.

Managed to get 54 mpg from 998cc 'Stage 1', 71,000miles 1989 original engine.

A trip up the m42/m1 and back and some knocking around town got me 208 miles from a tank.

Whats your best/worst mpg?

Motorway was driven at no faster than 60mph and on the return journey it was 1am and drafted a lorry most of the way home.
No excess weight in the car, tyres correct pressure and always making sure in the right gear...timing the traffic lights/roundabouts really helped. Treat the pedals like money sticks...the more you press them, the more it costs

Unless you've got a 3.85 gallon tank thats not 54mpg, it's about 27mpg........

Aha well i may have got my maths very wrong.

Il soon find out as iv download a fuel tracker app on my phone so can monitor it every time i fill up now

208 miles to a tankful or 7.5 gallons, so 208 (miles) divided by 7.5 gallons (max fuel tank capacity) = 27.7mpg

All a waste of time trying to work out his mpg when didn't say how much fuel he used.

No but he did say:

Brimmed then down to the red, and back again.

got me 208 miles from a tank.

Not exact but near enough..........

I had a Mini that was in the red with 2.5 gallons still in the tank, Mini fuel gauges aren't well known for their accuracy

It might be near enough for you, but it wouldn't be for me. and to then embarrass yourself (the OP) by claiming 54 mpg when it could be 27 mpg, like I said a waste of time.

Don't actually see that it's embarrassing for the op as, lots of people aren't sure of capacities, I see no need for the above comment unless your trying to embarrass people.........

Well lets just agree to disagree then. my last post in this pointless thread.

I got close to 60mpg when I first drove my mini, it was horrendous weather and a 250mile trip in a car that had done 20 miles in the previous 2 years so I guess i was very gentle. I thought the guage was stuck, then thought the fuel filler wasnt working at the petrol station. Not got close to that since but still get 40mpg when having fun. That is in a bog standard 998cc A+.
