Nice work, but cover sills?

I'm currently chopping huge sections out of my mini due to cover sills....

yes , firstly they came half attached to the car and after removal i had the same problems that you are having due to them hiding loads of rot , cover sills or skin sills ,a rotten mini is still a rotten mini and its down to how well the car is repaired in the first place . you can't blame cover sills you've gotta blame  the inadequate fitter who fitted them to hide the rot or your self for buying it in the first place , i knew what would be behind the sills i have been welding minis up for 30 yrs, secondly they are only covering the inner sills (old sills completely removed) and last of all the finish is neater ,stronger. and double skin where my cage feet sit

If i was repairing an old 60s mini in standard form then yes attention to detail is a must but due to the nature of my beast ? it's not like people are going to say ooo i'm not buying that mini "its got cover sills " is it? its matter of opinion , some people are purist some are realist.

Do you have any pics of your mini plz i would be interested in the model yr and comparison of rot.

mine was a true 94 vintage rot box

i replaced the inner sills and seam welded them from the outside and then from the in side on the overlap!

even the "cover" sills are seam welded even along the top where the door step is, not tic tac toed on or a blob every now and then. Thank you for your opinion my friend. ;D
