Okay well not so much a 'barn find'...but it was found...in a garage and it has been off the road for just short of five years!
Got it transported on a low loader home and work began last week...
Initial list started with a simple oil and filters change, bleed the clutch and MOT...but it soon got longer!
Oil and filters went fine, then came the clutch...it simple wouldnt bleed!
This was until one bright spark decided to look under the camper to find the clutch fluid pissing out the bottom!
Turns out the steel clutch pipe that runs front to back of the van was rotten...no problem, we will easily get a replacement?
Well no.
Ended up having to to have the pipe made from a local commercial vehicle motor factors, made out of cunnifer, in three sections.
Bent while lying on my back under the van, this was a bit of a pain but was worth it in the end...until it came to the rear union.
The union on the flexi hose that runs to the slave was stuck and wouldnt budge, so we needed a new flexi hose...no problem, wel get a replacement...well no.
Couldnt find ANYWHERE in the best midlands that could made a hose with the right fittings...so ended up ordering the hose online ar £32!!!!! Oh well I ordered it at 4:45pm and it arrived at 11am the next day so cant complain..
Replaced the slave while i was there which was another pain in the backside as VW over engineer everything and decided to place a nut within a bracket thats impossible to reach without help so I was delayed a further day.
Many many £'s in the campervan swear jar later and the clutch was bled and the van moved under its own steam for the first time in years.
After rewiring the glowplugs, all seems well with only a few issues left.
MOT is booked for monday where it will have a few small patched welded underneath and hopefully they will be friendly with the rest.
Also fixed the wash wipe and the horn along the way.
Also wire brusher all the underside and stonechipped everything.
Gave it a real good clean today and put some tyre shine on to impress the MOT man come monday.
Expecting it to fail on handbrake and rear shocks so iv asked them to clean the brakes up for me before they test it and il give the shocks a wipe when i get there ;)
Once its MOT'd plan is to find out why the camper electrics keep tripping out, then use the dam thing...just in time for the winter!
