see this on face book

no idea how you can tell if genuine oil or not - filters as well

warehouse was in Bulgaria apparently

if you are buying online how will you know it's genuine ?

buying off a large company will only help if their buyer can be bothered to check where oil comes from

There was some very cheap Shell oil for sale on ebay in recent weeks.   Problem with oil is you never know whether what you are paying for at the garage is what is going in.

one thing we learnt at college , was a viscosity cup , timing the quantity going thru at different temps

& a frying pan with a thermostat connected to it , to test when the oil started breaking down / burn

I'm sure there is also chemical analysts etc

but how can we know for sure

at work we use thousands of gallons of hydraulic fluid a year

suddenly a buyer has found the same spec - different colour for a fraction of the price - all certified etc

bet it's cow pi$$ dyed a different colour , they won't care - until the warranty's come flooding in

Always best to stick with what you know is good. Saving a few bob won't make you but could brake you. I hate buyers as a profession, to often they are only money oriented.

Many years ago a former Downton employee rebuilt an 1100cc engine for me, he asked me what oil I used, I said Duckhams, he said if I used that stuff he would not do the engine. He said it was rubbish and did't even look like oil, I had to agree with him, it was funny looking oil then.

I have never tried Castrol Edge. I used Mobil 1 on all my cars since the 70's and I changed the oil twice a year. Never had a problem until I bought a new 2001 Suzuki Vitara V6. When the oil was freshly changed, the engine was smooth and quiet. When the oil needed changing, the oil seemed very thin and the engine was very noisy with the timing chain rattling. I eventually switched to the Valvoline VR1 but synthetic. Things improved a lot, less noise and the oil appeared to be thicker at the end of the cycle.

I used Mobil 1 on the Mini and shortly after (not more that 2000 miles) the differential pin went. How worn out was the pin before using the oil? Who knows. But the engine and gearbox were very clean inside so the previous Japanese owner must have been using a high detergent regular oil or a synthetic.

One of the reasons Valvoline VR1 is so good is because it has a high zddp level which is vital for the gearbox.
Castrol Edge is fully synthetic and may not have enough zddp.

Zddp????

To late now ive made the change, I did lots of research on the castrol spoke to lots of people, the titanium in it makes it very hard under extreme conditions, and doesn't throff up,

I do change the oil after every meeting so 100 miles max,

only time will tell!!! again the vr1 I used didnt give me any issues.
