Hi everyone,

Ever since i was very young i have wanted a classic mini, i have now finnaly got the go ahead to get one. I am looking for a mini that doesnt have two much work, im fine with doing interia work and cleaning out engine. I am able to do some levels of welding but it would be much better if the subframes were okay and it was more like floor pannels, sills, boot etc. I would like it to be running and easy to get back on the road so i can use it whilst doing work on it as i dont want the engine just to get left there. My budget is £1000, im sorry if I seem picky. I dont mind if its a 1000 or a 1275.

Many Thanks

Mikey Jones

You might be able to get one for that price that needs complete restoration, but I doubt it would be road worthy. £1500, might get you one safe to drive on the road.

The problem is that a Mini for around £1500 is likely to need a lot of body restoration which will, in turn, mean a re-spray will be needed.
Classic cars are not cheap. Low purchase price equals much restoration and hence much money.

Sadly the days of cheap road worthy Minis with an MOT are over and as already said any bargain priced Mini today will need lots of work, time and money spent on restoring it. You might be better buying something like a small hatchback like a Fiesta for under a £1000 as your first car and then saving up to buy a good Mini in a couple of years.

I think you will struggle at £1000. But my advise is go for the best shell you can get and avoid paying extra for other people's mods that may not be your thing, for example Don't get drawn in by big wheels and carbon fibre bonnets, all that can be done later. On a tight budget you can't afford the "bling".

A lot depends on how much you can do yourself.
For example, a low price Mini may well need an engine rebuild. DIY cost could be around £850, but if the labour charge is added it would be considerably more and then machining cost would need to be added.
Then there is the gearbox ..... .

Honestly, for a sound mini as you describe you'd want to double your budget and add a bit. 2.5K ish should be getting you a MOT ready/MOD't Mini that will be safe to drive on the roads.
