Electric is definitely the future. Could do with a conversion kit for the mini. I already have a charge point :)

A friend of mine is doing a one off on a smart car, I'll stick to carbs ta. It will no doubt turn out to be BS and lies from the government in the end and and we will all have to pay for it. Just like nuclear power, diesel, renewable energy, privatized trains, HS2, scrapage schemes, cat converters, chemfuel and Co2. All just deceptive lies twisted to wangle more money out of us.

Alright we got a awesome conversion and government conspiracy. I am still on the fence with eletric, considering a complete r1 package would weight around 300lb with a 8 gallon fuel tank. Vs for example a i3, motor 50kg and battery 230kg

Can't see the point in converting any true classic car to electric. A classic car is just that -  a retro-driving experience for the fun of driving as it used to be in the 1960's.

Imagine an electric E-Type or an electric Austin A35.

If you want an electric car there are plenty to choose from.

may be there isn't much point at the moment but what about when forecourts start to disappear and there's nowhere to fill up?

I think we have to worry more about this

It will be a sad day when you can't drive your own car. Also would a electric e type be any worse then a rotary power one

Or a 1JZ one

It is very unlikely that all petrol outlets will disappear within the next 50 years.

Classic cars will be a special case and limited petrol will be available.

What will happen is that initially petrol-electric hybrids will be the norm, then as battery technology and fast charging evolve pure electric will be the thing. By then the classic cars of today will be over 100 years old. The Mini will be 100 years old in only 41 years time.

Think of the IVA or similar tests that will be needed if a classic car is converted to be electrically powered.

I doubt petrol will one day be completely gone, I mean aircraft still need it and I don't see them becoming electric as fast as cars are.
