Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have been enjoying having a look around and reading the threads.

I'm probably having a man look, but is there an engine section? I'm interested in engine rebuild threads showing some basic tweeks to improve performance a bit.

Cheers.

Most info on engines is in the problems and technical section.

Do you have a specific question, if so fire away?

There would be some engine builds also in the Projects section.

Sorry, no specific question. I was wondering if anyone had done an engine rebuild with some fairly simple power mods and documented it in a thread that I could read through. I'm doing research for future possible projects.

Cheers, thanks for the pointer. I'll take another look. Still finding my way around. I've been using Land Rover forums for thirteen years now, but it's amazing how tricky a new forum appears for a while.

Cheers, mate. I check that out. I've just been looking through the technical section, as advised above, and on the 4th page of threads found a thread by Will96 asking how to rebuild his 1275 engine. @Ethel recommended David Vizard's "Modifying the A Series", so I'll buy that. In fact, it's my birthday in a few weeks time and the mother in law has been asking me what I want for a fortnight, so it will be a perfect present!  :proud:

the problem is this "power mods"  nah you build and engine to work just adding things does not generally work as they have to work together and there are two things to consider the greatest restriction is the head. and the power comes from the camshaft. BHP is not the goal. Torque is.

Vizard's yellow Bible is a good one to read for some good guidelines and general do's and don'ts. Keith Calver also had an excellent website in www.calverst.com where the articles are well worth reading.

This DVD will also help you:-

"Ultimate Mini Builder - 1380cc A-series is your comprehensive guide to building a high performance fast-road 1380cc A-series engine. With over four hours of in-depth footage, watch as Mini expert Bill Sollis strips a Metro 1275cc unit and then rebuilds it to 1380cc...."

Not about A-SERIES, but is just about one of the best engine building books going. It's actually about the engineering and assembly processes which should be followed, rather than about bolt on goodies. This is a must for anyone doing engine work.

I followed Andy's Engine Rebuild thread when I was building up the Midas engine and it was invaluable. The most I had ever done before was a head gasket and a gearbox swap. Helped me massively.

I detailed it all in my build thread but thanks to the Photobucket changes all my photos on the thread disappeared.

That couldn't have done their business any good. Lots of pictures vanished on the Land Rover forum I'm on too.

Selfishly, it's annoying about your thread. People obviously thought it was extremely helpful. Did Andy's Engine Rebuild lose it's pictures too or did he not use the URL attachment option?
