Have a look at the images on post #7 on this thread:

If it's that striker plate that you are refering to it's meant to have that bend.

Thanks Mike. That is exactly what I needed to know. I'll just sort the seal around that striker plate and I hope it will be sorted.

Well problem is now fixed and was nothing to do with the seal, more a misfitting bootlid panel. Testing the fit without the seal in place showed that the top corners of the bootlid were too far in to the aperture, hence holding the lock too far out. A bit of judicious pulling on the top corners, with my knee against the lock handle, probably didn't do a lot but coupled with fitting a couple of washers under the lock plate to move it further in to the boot did the trick. Boot now fitting tight against the seal and panel gap all round looking acceptable.

Just an update to my boot seal.

I ended up going with the pheonixtrim one due to recommendations. Install was easy but the metal piece inside of it made my scissors uselessbut luckily i had tin snips on hand. Its just something to beware of.
I did have the typical difficult to close issue. I did a litlle adjustment of the lid and striker plate which helped but didnt solve my fitment issue. In the end i put some silicone grease around the lid lip and it shut with easy. I am hoping a few weeks of sitting will form it but i may have to drop my lid down slightly in the future for a trouble free fit.
