What seats do you have at the moment?

Perhaps you don't need to look at other makes. SPI seats for example are as comfortable as any car seat I've ever sat in. A world apart from the old single post headrest design they replaced. Although they are large seats so take up more room.

MPI seats are a little smaller but still a good supportive seat in my opinion.

Yea, they're MPI cooper ones (half leather)

Standard seat design 1996 to 2000 (MPI minis, last ones). Lots of colour/ material combinations in them.

Good seat. Same basic design as used in the last Metros (rover 100), but adapted to fit the mini mountings. They tilt forward as usual but also fold via a lever, the only factory classic mini seats that do this.

1992 would be single post headrest? I don't exactly know when the change to the double post came in.
I found the single post hurt my back as the post digs in your spine inside the seat, especially if the seat has some age and mileage.
I found the clubman style recliners very comfortable, but no headrest can be an issue. The advantage of the smaller, older seat designs is that they give more interior room. At 6ft I could sit in the back of my 88 city and just about do the hokey cokey in my 64! I struggle to get in the back of my 96. It's tricky to even clean back there. The headrests have to come off and the seat pushed all the way forward before I can even gain access by tilting the seat.
Larger seats (like my 96 spi) also foul the rear companion bins so seat extender brackets are out, unless you drive with the seat back bolt upright.

thanks do far for the tips....so fitting these new seats and replacing the single post headrest is a doable job by the sounds of it? - we are newbies I should add!

I think we are going to have to compromise on interior space for a better seat, I am not going back to the pain I had a few years ago which surgery fixed!

the wife might like the idea of ford puma seats - she used to have one back in the day :)
