thanks do far for the tips....so fitting these new seats and replacing the single post headrest is a doable job by the sounds of it? - we are newbies I should add!
I think we are going to have to compromise on interior space for a better seat, I am not going back to the pain I had a few years ago which surgery fixed!

It's doable yes. If it is later classic mini seats you go for or aftermarket seats for a mini, then it's 4 bolts, done.
Seats from any other car will need some engineering to fasten in, one way or another.
For example I once fitted Rover 100 seats to an '88 mini city.
The seats themselves are the same as MPI mini ones but I needed to make brackets to fit them, as they mount differently in the Rover 100.
