Good morning,

is it difficult to replace the the rotary coupling?

s it easily accessible?

I took apart the steering wheel, finally the air bag on the steering wheel, I don't dare to disconnect it for fear of making a mistake, I disconnected the battery.

and can I remove the air bag cable clip safely?

Do you have an interesting site to order it at a good price?

thanks

No
Yes
Yes
Not to hand.

When you take the airbag out, DO NOT STORE IT UPSIDE-DOWN! in the unlikely event it does go off, if it's upside-down, it will shoot thru the roof and beyond. If you keep it the right way up it will just inflate and make a noise. ?
Like all "fiddling" with airbags, disconnect the battery completely for a minimum of 30 min. Once out, you can reconnect to move/test the car but you must redisconnect the battery, completely, for another 30 min.
Just treat the airbag with care and remember it's a small bomb inside, so whenever you manipulate it try not to have your face right in front of it as you disconnect or connect it.
Sounds dangerous I know, but as long as you are gentle and take your time it's nothing major. I take out/in hundreds of them, no big deal.
The rotary connector counts turns, do try not to move or turn it without the steering wheel in place or you'll have to re center it. ?
Last one I saw it cost 150£ so I just repaired mine by using one of the unused circuits on it, but that meant taking it appart.
I think the ones on the mgf is the same part so might be a cher per option?
Also try MiniJosh92 on here, he might have one on one he is breaking.

but some people say here that you can make a modification to avoid buying a new one , change the pair of wires, right?

thanks for your help

Yes indeed.
The rotary coupling is basically a rolled up flat cable inside a round box (bit like the rolls of chewing gum I used to eat) and it has 6 (I think) wires in it.
Only three I belive are used, airbag and horn. In my case the connection on the horn wire broke and I was able to "jump" on to one of the unused cables.
Found a picture to show you, not mine tho.

that's interesting using one of the unsed wires.
I'll note that for next time .
I replaced the whole unit with a pre-loved one from fleabay which will obviously give up one day.

The rotary coupling is a few easy screws to remove.  Be careful not to let it open up, it’s a pain In the hole winding the ribbon backer back in.

plenty of them available in all the usual places, as far as I know it was a generic Rover part used in quite a few vehicles like the MG F.

BE SAFE WITH TNE AIRBAG!!

Remember it is an explosive device.  Take the fuse out of the system or disconnect the battery and leave it at least overnight.  Store it carefully, preferably face up in somewhere it won’t cause a wrecking session in the unlikely event it goes off.

The coupler had 6 paths for steering wheel buttons.

2 are used for the horn. Leaving 4 unused on a Mini.

I didn't take mine apart.

If you use a multimeter, you can determine which path isn't working anymore. I then moved a wire in the connector blocks (one from the buttons, one from the main loom), to a different pin position.

Obviously you have to match the pin on both connectors.

It's a fiddle to get the pins out of the connectors, but with a jewelers screwdriver; it's possible.
