Hi guys, I'm in the last mile getting my car built and we're trying to work out what to use to fill the doors with. The rules say:

...either be solid foam-filled or filled with carbon/aluminium honeycomb inserts. A filling inspection-hole is required.

Having emailed the series scrutineers, I've been advised that the inserts needs to completely fill the door & that the material used be flame retardant. They mandate no minimum safety standard.

My builder wants to use a the carbon/aluminium option, but to fill the door with that stuff will be ££££ and may actually be heavier than the standard door!

Does anyone have a good experience with the foams & if so can they advise which product you've used please?

What series are you racing in?

There are plenty of fire resistant expanding foams available from builders merchants but I’d find some people in your race series and ask them what they’ve used.

Built for Miglia's but probably going to do Libra for the first season. Problem was the scrutineers was not that helpful, I think he just wanted me to spray it with builders foam and call it job done.

Ended up using a sheet of flame retardant insulating foam from one of the trade counters.
