I have made a frame under the engine , and mounted a ford sierra(saffire in UK?) diff on it.Used the ford driveshaft stubbs that go into the diff, turned them down and drilled them for the SAE drive joints/yokes wich also fit directly on the mini splines. Made one new drive shaft , the other fit unmodified.Used the original engine mount holes in the subframe and the front holes where the tow hook goes, for the front engine mounts.welded the rear mounts for the engine in the bulkhead, kind of ties everything together. The space is very limited so i had to juggle with al the components to get it to fit. There is very little cutting involved and everything fits under the the hood. Can be built back to original if i want to.No reverse yet (working on it).welcome,

OMG I knew it wouldnt be long before bike engine in the right way. What next air cooled.
Great project.
can you tell me what your final drive ratio is, or how many teeth on the sprockets and are you going to run 10"
wheels ?

aha, someone in the UK has already done this and they're on this forum too, can't remember who though, it's in a yellow mayfiar i think.... not sure.
Anyway, FWD now that intersts me what with being able to carry passenger etc, i like the sound of this an awful lot.

I'm sure Smudger posted pics. Think that had to have an extended front though? There was another floating around I think, a blue one??

very interesting engine seems to sit alittle higher than some of the ones i've seen looks good! carbed R1 seems to be a good engine to go for simpler wiring loom...

wow those other FWD bike minis where cool. One of them was pretty simelar to mine, the other looked really nice enginering wise, and very complicated. The engine is a 2003 injection R1 , i put the engine, radiator, wire loom, header, airbox everything really on a scale. It pegged the weight at 75 kg, so its MUCH lighter than my old A-serie.
Dont remember the sprockets(post them later) but the ratio is 130mph @10000rpm.I have the smallest sprocket on the engine that i could find(15 i think). The gearing may be a little tall, but we will see. Also 10 inch wheels. There is a picture of the underside if you scroll all the way to the right on the screen.I can take some more pics if you want.Whats left to get it to drive is exhaust, shifter, clutch wire.
