I think I have a solution - not quite what I'd planned, but...

I've covered the pod in two patches - looks a bit ropey at the moment, but a couple of bits of strategically-positioned self-adhesive trim edging (which hopefully will arrive today!) should cover the joins.

I've attached another pic of the centre console panel - the fasten seat belt gauge won't actually go here, but the panel looks great with more gauges in! :)

Damn. Hadn't realised that in order to get the dash rail out you have to take the windscreen out too... :shy:

As it happens there's a bit of rust bubbling on the scuttle that needs sorting out and a chip or so in the screen, so I need to replace it - but after my experience last time of the doing the front screen I'm going to wait until I've got some help!!

I fitted a dashboard to my mini purely just to house some speakers but go for a subtle look.

All custom made by a great local company here in Belfast.

Really neat. I also have one of those magnetic Minis that you have on the ashtray.

Stunning example, I love the retro/modern look! I'll be interested to see what you do with the steering column, etc. as it's the only area that stands out to me currently.

Nearly finished - a couple more gauges to fit and plumb in, but I got the screen out over the weekend and fitted the new dash:

Looks really good! Does it not limit visibility though?

Not really - it's lower than it looks in the pic. I lose a tiny bit of the bottom of the screen, but I an still see the end of the bonnet. :-)

Where does the top dash rail come from?  I like the idea!

I made it! Well, mostly - I bought an old dash rail off ebay, cut a hole in the top with an angle grinder and made the pod out of plywood/mdf, which is covered in black vinyl sheet.

Earlier this year I bought a '60s aftermarket dash for my M2 S made by 'Radbourne' (never heard of them before!), it slots straight in between the top and bottom dash rails. It's only a thin piece of vinyl covered ply, very typical of some aftermarket Mini stuff but looks the part...
