Hi there again... and I know I've posted a lot lately :), but I was wondering if it was possible to fit some sort of climate control to a classic mini. I'm sure that a few years ago I came across a guy on a forum saying that he was producing automatic climate control units for the standard mini aircon, and he was going to flog them on ebay or something once the testing had been completed... but I've just done a Google search and it's returned nothing :). So, moving on from that... I was wondering if it was possible to fit BMW mini climate control to a mini, or some other form of climate control?

PS: I know it's not really essential in the UK , but there you go :gimme:

Climate control would be a total PITA I reckon, they rely on temperature probes, automatic valves for letting coolant to the matrix etc.

I would have thought that the above would all be controlled by the cars body control module too, or in the MINI's case a CAN-BUS system.

Yes, the MINI's Climate Control is quite complex and controlled by the main Body Control Module (BC1) via a Bus wiring network. The Air Con/Heater unit and all the vents, flaps, etc are controlled by 3 servo actuators and various temperature sensors around the car. It would be a very big challenge if not impossible to also physically fit the unit in a classic Mini.

I bought a complete Climate Control System from a scrap MINI last year to upgrade my own MINI but have not got round to actually fitting it yet as it is quite a major job involving complete removal of the dashboard and much of the interior, plus some re-programming of the BC1 and splicing in an extra wiring harness.

Thanks for the link... Definatley one to keep an eye on. :shifty:
I did try doing a search, and I found a few good topics about the standard mini aircon.

It maybe a PITA (I think I know what you mean by that), but then a lot of people think that of standard mini aircon (those who have it and those who don't), and I suppose that maybe why people buy minis, so they don't get gadgets like that.
And Probably yes in most new cars, but I think you can get ones to run of their own 'chips' aswell.

I've thought about it a bit more though, [ :) ] and maybe the BMW unit might be a bit to big, but the new ford KA comes with (or as an option), so maybe, if you could find a unit, that would work?

Maybe then the KA's is too complex too,
And I need to look at something like this, that fits on afterwards? Linky

it'd be very easy to rig up a basic temperature controlled heater, but you'd obviously need aircon too if you wanted to make it colder than outside.

I have actually driven one with climate control though. The car is a very late Japanese spec cooper 500 sport with John Cooper conversion. However I cant find any picture evidence on the web. Hope this help.

I m pretty sure its climate control as it got the temperature displayed, plus the layout is not the traditional japanese spec air con.
Something like this.....
