Yes, it was the new Labour governments Gordon Brown who abolished the rolling 25 year classic car tax exemption brought in by the Tories a few years earlier. In his first budget in 1997 as Chancellor for Tony Blair.
He called it a 'Bangers Charter' but if he had left well alone all Mini's up to 1986 would now be tax exempt and far fewer people would be tempted to swap their post-1972 classic Mini's, MGB's, MG Midgets, Land Rovers, Range Rovers and Triumph Spitfires, etc onto pre-1972 V5 log books!

Yeah I'd vote for you!!....after all you own a classic mini, which in my book makes you a far more suitable candidate to run the country than any of our current MP's will ever be!!

Before I would have said this will never happen, but now they have scrapped MOTs for pre 1960s cars I could see this happening. The petition will still be ignored though.
