Here is a picture of a custom made door card i made for my other car. I am looking at doing the speaker pods seperate if i get interest.

What would people be willing to pay and are there people who would be interested, these would be made to mount on the door but i could look at other places to and shapes etc? These are made from fiberglass and mdf and i could trim them in various colour vinyls.

My email is also [email protected]

I may be if quality & finish is up to scratch.

Price? Varies wildly. Custom Minis do one for £99, all fibreglass. But I've also seen one-off bespoke ones done for £250.

6.5" and 5.25" option would be nice too.

Quality and finish is great as these are in my Porsche so wouldn have it any other way. Best way would be to custom make them to individuals speaker as some cases vary but im sure i can make a standard size. At the moment its just to see how much interest i get. I guess they would probably be sold for around £80-£100 pair?

If that's the price, then would you like to do some for me?! Special trial/demo price :)

Where d'you live by the way, if it makes things easier?

Rob i am interested in doing these but need to see what sort of respons i get. They will be made in my spare time also as unfortunately we all have to work. Would prob take couple of weeks at the most to put together when i start but if i get a good response then i would make up several templates at a time. Do you think there would also be a market to sell them as pods uncovered so people can have them trimmed themselves or would it be better to sell them trimmed. I would just do basic one colour of customers choice no 2 tone colours to keep things simple at first.

I live in Rayleigh Essex. Currently i have a 998 city standard but now my other car is finished i can start on the mini. I only bought it to run around in till my car was done but have grown to love it. So wide arches nice interior etc will be on the menu in the next month or so.

How much would you think of charging for something really simple such as these for 6.5 inch speakers?:

Clicky

I am guessing they wouldn't take too much time and effort to create them compared to some other designs. There are a couple of expensive pods you can buy, but there doesn't seem to be a budget end to the spectrum. I would happily buy some cheap (look ok even if the staging etc isn't amazing) but I would rather make my own than pay lots, unfortunately I never get round to buying some fibreglass and doing it!

i'd be interested in some. just in black leather or vinyl finish, or just black painted. i dont get much time out of work do things like this so i tend to rely on others. I dont mind paying good money if the quality is there.

Something like what you have shown would be really easy to make, i could even make them slightly domed shape its up to you, im happy to experiment with different designs and there would be no extra charge some may even come out cheaper. As i have said at the moment i am just putting the feelers out to see what sort of responses i get. I have just completed my other car so mini is my new project, i will also be doing complete door cards and will look at custom design. I will let this run for a bit so i know what sort of interest i get and then i will start a set for my car. Once happy i will post the pictures and get opinions. Start to finish i can make them quite quickly its just i also have other comitments, work, baby etc so alot would be done in my spare time. Keep the interest coming in and hopefully i will start making them soon. I suppose for the basic style you are after just let me know what you think is a good price, as i said i want to get feedback from as many people as i can befor i make some sets.

How about some sort of door pocket with speaker pod built in, but still angled upwards?

I would be looking to spend about £20 probably up to £30 on a set like that...

I guess it would take under an hours work if you knew what you were doing, I have no idea how long it would actually take or how much the materials cost or how much profit you are looking to make. The only competition for budget pods that I know of are these pods. As you can see they are £30 a pop and only designed for 13cm speakers not 16.5cm ones. So really its down to you.

In what way would they be domed? If the price is right I would gladdy buy a pair from you if they will take 16.5cm speakers and fit under the dash board some where so I don't need to run wires to my doors!

Is it a reasonable price for the work and materials needed to make simple pods? Tell me what you think, you may even have your first customer!

I think your budget would be a little low for this sort of quality. Its not so much the material cost its the time to get them correct. I wouldnt want to make anything tacky or rushed. When i say domed i mean so it tappers in so the speaker sits on sort of a mound if that makes sense. I am hoping also to have my mini completed for the London to Brighton run and plan to have a good number of sets to take along and show to people and hopefully sell on or at leasttake orders.

Nor would I expect you to produce something you didn't feel was up to scratch.

Like I said I have no experience with fibre glassing or covering strange shapes with vinyl. What would be a more sensible price for this sort of concept? You have all the cards, all I can do is guess!

I'm planning on making up my own custom door cards so as long as they were the right width so they fitted across the door panel ok and didn't get in the way of the seats they'd be great.

Exactly i wouldnt want to sell anything that wasnt up to peoples expectations i htink for what you are after i would say around £60 covered in vinyl. I would obviously make them and mail pics first to make sure its what you were after. I wouldnt want to supply something that is not correct to how you wanted. If i get a chance i will get out at the weekend and start looking at what i can do.
