I'm just about ready to start rebuilding the new engine as the main parts are back from the machine shop.

It was all in quite good condition considering the age so not too much work was needed.  The block has now been honed with new cam bearings, oil and core plugs fitted and the deck skimmed.  The cylinder head has been ported, hardened valve seats and the chambers opened up plus a light skim to bring the compression back to 10.5:1.  It is an early MG head so already has the larger valves.  The primary gear needed re-bushing and the crank tail tidying up a bit.

New bits that have arrived:

  • MED stage 2 lightened pre-verto clutch assembly with pre-engaged ring gear.
  • Various arms, bolts bearings and pins required to convert from the existing verto set up.
  • Piston rings
  • Cam followers
  • Main and big end bearings
  • Thrust washers
  • Minispares alloy inlet manifold
  • K&N filter
  • Unballasted coil
  • Plugs
  • Leads
  • Chain tensioner
  • Oil filter housing
  • Oil pump
  • Oil pressure gauge and sender
  • Gaskets, millions of gaskets.
  • Various bolts and other sundry bits and pieces.

Will be using the existing MG metro cam and HIF44.

The machining was done by Brett Sims Motorsport.  Can't recommend him highly enough as the work looks to be top quality and he was really honest about what didn't need doing, like just going for a hone rather than a rebore and no crank regrind being needed.  Prices were reasonable too.  Certainly not cheap but good value for the quality of work.

Did you ever find some NZ 1275 GT decals? I’m in the same boat in NZ looking for some.
