Just been removing carpet etc from my mini and found this, which is responsible for an annoying rattling noise. I can't figure what it is??? it's behind the carpeted shelf on the front, just to the left of the speedo etc.. - it's an Spi

sorry, yes, it is part of the immobiliser system - i take it you have one?
It is coded with the engine ECU, if you ever need a new engine ECU, you need this as well - they are coded together...

nope, dont have an imobilsor either, well not a factory fitted one! its only a sprite! i take it it has to be fitted for the ecu to work then? with or without an imobilisor?

That surprises me that you dont have an imobiliser; you sure you dont have a button on a key fog which you press before starting? - and didnt think rover did a sprite as Spi? is it a classic seven? either way, i wouldnt remove it as all those wires must make it do something ! On my MPi i tapped into a pin off that plug to activate my central locking kit from minitrailers - so it is definately alarm/imobiliser related on my car...

dont even have a key fob! dont have any little leds on my dash either, so there is defo not a factory imobilsor in my car! its defo a sprite, they changed from carb to spi in 94 or 95, and stopped doing the sprite in 1996, they did manual and automatic versions, is your box lucas?

1992 - 1996
Production of Mini Sprite and Mini Mayfair 1,275cc
Details: Sprite had black wheel arch extensions and full width wheel trims but otherwise a similar specification to the City model. Mini Mayfair had added chrome and Chevron fabric interior. Full width burr-walnut dash from 1993, metro based front seats and internal bonnet release. Alarm/Immobiliser also fitted to Mayfair from 1993.
Engine size: 1275cc

nothing about an immobiliser being fitted to the sprite, it must of been an optional extra...

Sprites where carbs until about late '94/'95ish so wouldn't have come fitted with an immobiliser, only injected sprites.

Paul.
