Ok hello everyone, i'm 17 and yesterdays event has left me feeling broken and distraught.

Took my mini for a routine trip out along the countryside, was running fine as usual as she has always done. About 45 minutes into the trip i was doing 60 along a gorgeous open road and i checked my rear view mirror, i saw smoke coming over my back seat. I panicked and slowed down to around 30 suddenly but there wasn't enough time to stop, i wrestled to get my race harness off and opened the door. The flames had already picked up now, and opening the door just brought enough flow of oxygen to ignite the whole lot. I dived out doing around 30 miles an hour, the car rolled away from me and stopped on the grass verge. Already engulfed in flames, i had burnt my neck and side of face.

I ran away from it as i knew the fire had started in the boot it was likely to have the petrol tank soon aflame. I watched my car go up in flames and i was in tears. My whole car and possessions burnt to the ground as i watched.

The fire brigade told me the nature of the fire was likely to be an electrical one, and they had suggested i may have had a small leak from my petrol tank. And my battery was exposed to it, as there was no cover over it.

I'm gutted i've lost my first car that i poured my heart, money and hours of work into

I could have died yesterday, had i not noticed. i'm just happy to be alive and very very lucky i checked my mirror and saw the pre-cursor of the fire.

That is such a shame, looked like a beautiful car. I'm sure the cage and sump guard and all the goodies like that could be saved and put on another car. Bad luck

can you still use the shell?

I doubt it. Fire damages metal beyond repair.

I'm so sorry to see this but the important thing is that you're alive. I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying it must have been having to throw yourself from a moving car like that, especially when you must be relatively new to the road.

Such a shame, was a very cool looking car. Chin up buddy, at least you got out relatively unhurt, could have been a lot worse if your harness got stuck.

So. so sorry for you mate.

Could have been a lot worse though.

I know how folks feel about their minis on here, they become part of your life, not just a car. But, don't forget they're just tin and rubber and will mend or can be replaced.

As long as you're OK, that's the main thing. There'll always be another mini.

Chin up fella.
